Breakdown

Portable is an educational language app designed to mimic a real life classroom experience. Benchmarks on similar language apps and research on language teaching techniques were completed in the initial design process. The majority of learning tools focus on self study, which can be used anywhere, anytime, and at the pace of the user. In-class learning provides the added advantage of building upon previously learnt concepts and introduction of new ones. For example, in terms of language development, self study could be used to develop vocabulary and grammar, while peer learning develops cultural understanding. Comparatively, Portable features a similar textbook and game style learning. However, through prompts and aimed activities, collaborative learning is able to exist.
